Customer Story:
All of the “Created By” and “Modified By” metadata for a legacy SharePoint doc library is under a retired employee…can we change it without manually changing it?
A workflow that updates metadata is not especially groundbreaking, but the novel approach of this PowerAutomate was that it essentially allowed the client to “spoof” any other valid user in Active Directory, inserting those names into even system metadata like “Created By” to correct legacy data, which normally can’t be overwritten. On top of that, I then added a FlowBot to track and report on each time this was done so that there is a clear paper trail of modifying these fields that are otherwise set in stone.
